Hello all,
So, I'm Desslok. It is a crime that it's taken me this long to join this community. I take no small amount of pride in saying that I had a hand in creating it, if only because I helped bring these crazy kids together in the first place.
Wow, it's been a while. I forget how to introduce myself. So, I'm 40 (ouch), married, 2 daughters (9 and 11), and work for the government (nothing particularly exciting). I started my fanfic "career" (if I can call it that) writing Ami/Mako fics: a bunch of short stories and a couple "epics." That was a while back, but they're still out there on fanfiction.net and shoujoai.com. I think after I finished "Interregnum", I'd pretty much said everything I had to say about the Sailor Senshi and the Muse deserted me for a long while. I got reinspired by Harry Potter and cranked out some Harry/Ginny fics and a lengthy Draco/Pansy story I co-wrote with someone. The 7th book pretty much killed my muse there, as JKR did a great job of wrapping up those plotlines. I also scribbled out a few "Office" fanfics (Jim/Pam). Since then most of my writing has been for an ongoing, online roleplaying game (Legend of the Five Rings).
I've been a gamer since 3rd grade, working my way through "White Box" DnD, AD&D, Traveller, etc. all the way up to the present, with occasional gaps for college, etc. I got into anime in middle school when the local TV station showed Star Blazers, the US translation of Space Battleship Yamato, which I became obsessed with (hence the pseudonym). I dove back in wholeheartedly through Sailor Moon around 2002/2003. Doc got me completely addicted by slowly and surely exposing me to Utena, which is simply incredible. Netflix did the rest and I've been working my way through many of the classics ever since.
Favorite anime includes Sailor Moon (Season S, naturally), Cowboy Bebop, and Azumanga Daioh (I really really love AD, and Yotsuba&! too).
Favorite manga include Fruits Basket, AD, Yotsuba&!, and Megatokyo. My wife is (in my mind, inexplicably) addicted to Nana, but I don't see the charm personally.
I guess that's good enough for now.
