Hmm, is it just me or did they go way overboard with the 'Old Mean British Woman' with Luna, I mean it fit her, it was just... funny! But it did fit her, even if it did make her sound annoying at times!

YAAAAAAYYY!!!!!! Hey wait a minute. Aren't Mikos supposed to be all chaste & virtuous & well behaved & stuff?? And you & CS are both Mikos now? I hope you two weren't saving the fun birthday celebrations for this weekend, what with having to behave like catholic school girls for the next 50 posts & all. Oh wait. I know a few catholic school girls. Nevermind........

As for Luna? I like japanese/subtitled Luna, but i never liked english annoying Luna. Kinda like i had problems with the american dub Ami. I first watched SM on regular TV in the first season. At which point i swore up & down i would NEVER watch it again. My video guy talked me into watching the R movie I think & after that i bought the whole series as it was released. Bad quality tapes & all. I was then totured by it being legally released in the uS so my video guy stopped carrying it. Like 10 episodes from the end of stars!!!!!!!!!!! I still havent seen the very last episode.

Urgh. I hated some of the dub voices, Luna and Ami particularly (and I wasn't fond of "serena" either). If I could only find a dubbed version of an episode I'd just skip the episode. I apreciate that the dub was one of the first official dubs to actualy stay true to the original version for the most part (in comparison to some of the stuff they had showing back in those days) but I still think DiC should burn in hell for all eternity. Man, every time Luna opened her mouth I got the urge to jab sharp pointy obejects into people/furniture/scenery/my own ears.

Oh, also:

Youtube. it's evil, but it's good for filling in the gaps. Although you're probably better off not watching those, the ending of Stars was kinda crappy. Kinda really crappy (And by kinda, I mean mega ultra super really).

I'd prefer to think of us as Mikos along the KnM vein rather than the chaste and virtuous line... without all the katana's and silly sacrifice stuff, of course! 

 

Anyway, I was blessed enough to first really watch the series dubbed.  When I had to catch the subs on CN for eps I'd missed, I could live with it...but Luna always sounded like she had a broomstick stuck up her butt, 'Amy' was so prim and snooty and proper I could hardly bare it, and 'Serena' was just loud annoying and just over all obnoxous...

Did you know that dub veiwers actaully miss an important shot of Minako standing in the crowd during ep. 33 (I think...) 'The Last Sailor Warrior: Sailorvenus Appears!'  It's before she's joined the others, and shows how closely she is watching over them.  The stupid tiara flips through and as I remember you see nothing but her legs and the bottom of her school fuku.  Maybe not much to some, but important enough to me...and the guys who created the thing to begin with apparantly.

Thanks for going to all that trouble, that's a great screenshot! The taira begins to spin so quickly that unless you already knew Minako was there, you'd never catch it, and it was obvious from her placement in the shot that she was suppose to be seen. Both her, and Artemis too BTW, are placed forward of the rest of the crowd.  They are obviously focused on Usagi with intent and even Minako's stance is strong and purposeful.

You are suppose to feel her presence. 

Just another example of a really good subtle touch 'shot-to-sh#*' by the ham-handed attempts to 'clean-up' this horribly mind warping japanese cartoon....ARGH!!!!!!!!!

I just found out that Mamoru's Spanish dub name is Armando.  For some reason I now have this image of Mamoru speaking with Antonio Banderas' voice.

Mamoru: My sweet Sailor Moon, it is I Armando, here to save you. *Kicks monster butt, then slashes a large Z on the wall with his cane.*
Usagi:  Why did you do that?
Mamoru: For some reason *dramatic pause* it seemed appropriate.
Usagi:  Oh.  *Starts sneezing.*

I lol'd that they erased the line of Makoto's butt in her transformation scene. That's it, just that one line indicating that she has a rear end. Instead, her leg just... ends in flesh tone. It looks ridiculous once you notice it.

Who exactly do they think they're fooling?

First of all, little kids? They really don't think of the human body that way. They don't get that whole 'sex' thing yet. That's a puberty thing. So those little kids that (for some reason) the dubbers were targeting the show to probably weren't even thinking about it. I know I wasn't (still wasn't fooled about Haruka and Michiru, though...)

And anyone old enough to get it? Trust me. They get it. That one little line does not actually make them any less nekkid -especially since it doesn't even happen until after she's already clothed again.

And I'd like to voice my agreement as to what people have said so far about dub voices. They ALL annoyed me! Compare each of their voices; the English ones were terrible! Some of them were okay - "Darien" wasn't too bad, and I could halfway live with Hotaru and "Lita", but all the rest of them bugged me.

I had a hard time watching R the first time. It was the dub version, and I was pissed off enough that I had to listen to Sugar's whiny, piercing, high-pitched drone during the intervals between shows, but to have to then put up with it in the middle of my favourite cartoon? Ugh. I was displeased.
